Leclanche Cell Specifications:

The battery is contained by a conducting solution (electrolyte) of ammonium chloride, a cathode (positive terminal) of carbon and a depolarizer of manganese dioxide(oxidizer) and an anode (negative terminal) of zinc (reductant).

• It comprises a container 90 x 90 x 150 mm.
• Rim shaped to hold the zinc rod to accommodate the cathode.
• A porous pot containing a carbon rod with terminal with a mixture of powdered carbon & manganese dioxide depolarizer.
• Requires approx. 500 ml of ammonium chloride electrolyte with zinc rod & porous pot but without electrolyte.
• The cell produces an EMF of about 1.5 volts.
