LECLANCHE CELL:

This cell is a battery. The battery contained a conducting solution (electrolyte) of the ammonium chloride, a cathode (positive terminal) of carbon, a depolarizer of the manganese dioxide(oxidizer), and an anode (negative terminal) of zinc (reductant). The chemistry of this cell was later successfully adapted to manufacture a dry cell.

The original form of the cell used a porous pot.

Specifications:

• Useful for the intermittent use.
• It consists of a zinc rod of 12.5 mm diameter and a charged porous pot 150×60 mm (height × diameter), with the terminals, having an EMF of about 1.4 V.
